T-shirt Design for the LCI Technological Skills Challenge

In CyberARTS, we have to make a design about the technological stuff that we do in LCI such as the culinary works, cosmetology, auto, wood shop, and CyberARTS.

I got my inspiration when I was looking in Pinterest. I found this image: 

 I took that pattern and thought to myself that I can make icons that represent the technological stuff in LCI.

I sketched a draft in my notebook and then made it in Adobe Illustrator. There was a shape tool where I can make a polygon. This makes it easier to make my design. Then I made the pattern black because it looks simple enough that everyone can wear on a white t-shirt. I made that layer the background. After that, I made the icons in a separate file for each one. Then I copied it to where my pattern is in separate layers for each icon. After that, I made my text in a new layer. I wanted it to look bold so it have emphasis.

After that, I made variations of it in a new file.

I wished I can put more than one colours so I can make more varieties, but only one colour is the rule. I think this design sends out a message about how fun technology can be in LCI. But then I realized that there is nothing that represent LCI other than the text. Maybe I should make a phoenix because that is our animal in LCI. Overall, I'm satisfied with the design because I worked so hard on this.

Charcoal Grid Drawing

In CyberARTS, we did a class work where we have to draw on small pieces with charcoal that makes up into a big picture like a puzzle. This picture is called The Third-Class Carriage by Honore Daumier.  The trick to this is to draw what you see, not what you think you see because it might be something else. The charcoal was messy, but I had fun with this.

 To me, this doesn't look real. There is space like the background, but the lines are too visible. Also, the lines' thickness varies throughout the picture. There were good details and shading, but I think there wasn't enough details on the faces. That's what I think for the imitationalism part.

For the formalism part, I think this doesn't have unity. Since each piece was made by a different person, it's not easy for the pieces to match. This makes it asymmetrical with the different values. The darks have emphasis but they are in different parts of the picture, which breaks the unity. That's what I think for the formalism part.

And for the emotionalism part, I think this feels very somber. The colours are dark, and the expressions on the people's faces are dull. And because of mixed values that don't match makes it also scary. And that's what I think for the emotionalism part.

I like this photo because the colour on the beet stands out which makes emphasis. It could have been 4 stars if the leaf isn't there covering part of the beet. The leaf was distracting so I rated it as 3 stars.

I like this photo because the veins in the leaves that leading it towards the wall in the background making movement. Also, the wall makes contrast with the leaves. And there is more leaves in the background that are blurred which makes the leaves at the front have emphasis and repetition. I rated this 4 stars.

I like this photo because I tried using selective focus and it turned out well. But to me, this seems plain because nothing seems to . So I rated this 3 stars.

I like this photo because the flowers are placed on every row based on the rule of thirds. Also, the flowers are in focus which makes emphasis. I rated this 4 stars.

I like this photo because the plant is in focus which emphasize it but the colour is similar to the background. So I rated this 3 stars.

I like this photo because it has radial balance to it and the center is emphasized. I don't see anything bad, but there isn't anything better than the plant. So I rated this 3 stars.

I like this photo because of the cool effect on the plants. There is movement and repetition because they placed in rows. I rated this 4 stars.

liked this photo because the yellow stands stands out, making emphasis and contrast. It could have been better if that person wasn't there. But fortunately, the sunflower distracts you from that. So I rated this 4 stars.

I like this photo because the flowers are in focus and the colours on the flowers makes emphasis. It also looks simple and clean. I rated this 4 stars.

Illustrator Tracing Assignment - Logo

I chose to do the sakura(cherry blossom) because I was listening to a song about it then I started to realize how it connects to me. The cherry blossom only blooms for a very short time. In Japan, this represents that everything don't last forever. You don't get too attached to things because in time, things can change. This is very meaningful to me because it taught me that in time, good things will soon be gone. even the bad ones. So I try to spend as much time as possible with the things that bring me joy while I endure when bad times comes, because like night and day, it will all pass away.

For the logo, I try to outline the petals and all of the center things as accurately as possible. I made the lines thin So the colours can stand out. For the colours, I like it flat because it gives a simple look, which I love the most. But I use darker colours for the buds that were underneath the flower to give it some depth. The font I use is Baskerville Old Face. I'm not sure why I chose that font. It just calls out to me, and I like it.

In Illustrator, I use the pen tool to outline everything, and make layers for each part of the flower and buds. I also like to lock my layers so that I can't touch that particular layer while I work on my other layers. The buds and the petals were easy, but the center of the flower was the most difficult. I have to make layers for parts of the center; one that's in front, and another that's behind it. And then another one of the tips of it so that I can colour it yellow. The one most important thing I learn from Illustrator is when you use the pen tool to make a shape, you have to complete it, otherwise when you colour, it's not going to fill in all the parts because you didn't complete the shape.

I could have used the gradient tool, but I don't think it will look good on this. I might try it again though. I love the colour variations, but my favourite one would the the pink one. I also did this in greyscale and black and white. Overall, I'm happy on how my logo turned out.

Thumbprint Identity

This is my Fingerprint work. I chose purple and blue as the colour of my background because it represents the night sky. I also added some white for the stars. I made the background like the night sky because I love to look at the stars at night. And because I like sleeping.
There is balance because on one half, there's purple, then on the other, blue. And then in the middle is the stars, making a symmetrical balance. Also, there is a lot of white dots to make repetition.
I really love how the colours get darker as it gets further away from the stars, having value. The thing I struggle on while making this is getting the colours blended. I never worked with semi-moisted watercolours before. I only worked with hard watercolours. So it was hard for me to control how much I put. That was my mistake. I should have tested the colours first.
Now the text, I emphasized the "yikes!" to show that I'm really scared of titans. And I love how the last sentence fits perfectly with part of the background being blue if you look closely. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied on how my Fingerprint work came out.

Typographic Identity

This is my Typographic. I use these words because I am a quiet and thoughtful person, and I try to be polite and mindful to others. I don't usually engage at stuff. Instead, I just observe. I believe in the Golden Rule, " Do unto others as they do unto you." I have a younger brother and I make stories. I also have a Wacom tablet and use the program Paint Tool Sai.
I chose the shape as a seahorse because it reminds me of Bermuda; where I was born. And the colours I  chose were a mix of blues and greys because I really like how it looks calm- which I want to be. And the fonts, it seems antique to me.
